Scholarship Recipient's, July 25, 2026
The San Antonio Chapter of Blacks in Government (BIG) awarded 3 $1000 scholarships during its annual Scholarship Gala on July 25, 2026. Next year thanks to one of our life members, Ms Dee Studavent and her husband, BIG will offer a new scholarship for $2000. They are sponsoring the scholarship in honor of Ms Studavent's mother. MLK March 2026-Diversity Unites Us: Love Leads Us & Action Propels Us!
The City of San Antonio, in partnership with District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez and the San Antonio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, chaired by Dr. Doshie Piper, invited the community to participate in the largest Martin Luther King Jr. march in the nation. The 39th Annual San Antonio Martin Luther King Jr. March took place on Monday, January 19, 2026, and SAC-BIG was there marching with our host church, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
Celebrating Black History 2026-A Century of Black History Commemorations
SAC-BIG celebrating Black History, 2026 with Guest Speaker, BIG member, Ms. Yolanda Turner, ctr. The theme for 2026 is "A Century of Black History Commemorations". It was February 1926 when Dr. Carter G. Woodson founded Black History Month. This month-long celebration is observed annually and focuses on celebrating African American lives, culture, contributions, and history. What started as Negro History Week turned into a month-long observation as a means of promoting, preserving, honoring, and sharing Black History.
Thanksgiving Outreach 2025: Supporting the Community
SAC BIG Thanksgiving Outreach event with Seton Home, Monday, November 17, 2025. SAC BIG Was proud to partner with Seton Home for a 2nd year. coordinated by BIG Member, Ms Lisa German. Seton Home works to break the cycle of abuse and poverty by providing a caring home, education and support services necessary to transform the lives of pregnant and parenting teen mothers and their children and also providing stability to teens girls who need safe shelter.
